Films 131 - 140

The next ten films in the Empire 5 star 500 Challenge are:
  1. Dawn Of The Dead (1978)
  2. Day For Night (1973)
  3. Day Of The Dead (1985)
  4. Day Of Wrath (1943)
  5. The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
  6. Days Of Heaven (1978)
  7. Dead Of Night (1945)
  8. The Deer Hunter (1978)
  9. Deliverance (1972)
  10. Departures (2008)
After a slightly disappointing start to the previous ten (I didn't truly understand Cutter's Way despite watching it twice in two days), I was pleasantly surprised by the final few films. The delicious Dangerous Liaisons was the spacer between The Dark Knight and Dancer In The Dark - two films that are polar opposites in terms of theme but both outstanding in terms of their quality. Das Boot was equally good and deserves commendations.

The standout films in the next section are the two from The Trilogy of the Dead. These are the final part of only one of three three-part franchises that have been awarded five stars for each film so I am expecting big things despite not being a big lover of horrors.

The Deer Hunter has come with high recommendations from my girlfriend's mother who, when I first announced the challenge, asked whether it was on the list. Shamefully, The Day The Earth Stood Still is the only other film I've heard of thanks in part to the 2008 remake.

So, until next time!
